Greetings!

Thanks for taking the time to look at our website.  Our names are Jim and Jeanine Bosdech and we are the owners and operators of Sandburr Farm. Our primary goal, when we purchased this property, was to have control over what is in the food we eat because were concerned about pesticide residuals, antibiotics and chemicals in the food we were eating.  We wanted to grow and produce as much of our food as possible.  We both have a farming background.  Jim grew up on the Family Century Dairy Farm in Alaska, Wisconsin and Jeanine has a background in dairy farming as well.  We both enjoy working with the animals and it is very important to both of us to practice farming using organic, sustainable and humane principles.

We purchased our property in Suamico, Wisconsin in August 2008 and promptly named it Sandburr Farm.  At the time calling it a farm was quite a stretch…. yes, we had 31 acres, a barn and two other buildings but it had not been an operating farm for many years.  The roof on the barn needed to be replaced relatively soon or deterioration would accelerate, and the other buildings were not far behind. The field was full of ruts, debris and weeds. We did not realize at the time how much work was ahead of us to bring everything up to a functioning level.   Over the years, we have worked to restore the original barn and other buildings, as well as reshape the landscape of the property.

We started small with a flock of Dominque chickens and a chicken coop that Jeanine won via Mother Earth News Magazine.  Soon after, we started selling our extra eggs to relatives and friends. We did this for a few years, then added four Tamworth feeder pigs, keeping one for ourselves and selling the others, again to friends and relatives.  Later, we bought two bred Tamworth guilts, eventually buying registered Tamworth breeding stock.

We firmly believe that you must have healthy soil to grow healthy plants and livestock.  We do not use pesticides, herbicides or synthetic fertilizer on our land.  The chickens and pigs are raised on pasture and we use rotational grazing to give them a steady source of fresh grass and clover.  Pasture, sunshine, fresh air and plenty of space to enjoy being outside produces healthy and content animals.  We do not buy feed with antibiotics or give growth enhancing drugs to our animals, which means there is no antibiotic residue in our meat and eggs.  We also do not cut off our pig’s tails, debeak our chickens or put rings in the feeder pigs’ snouts. Our animals are allowed to do what comes naturally to them.

Our customers enjoy the taste of our grass-fed pork and eggs.  We sell pork by the pound at our on-site farm store or by the half or whole and work with local butchers who will custom process your meat order.  If you are able and interested, we invite you to our farm to see firsthand how we raise our animals and to answer any questions you might have.  If you are interested in learning more about the Tamworth breed, click here.  In addition to selling meat and eggs, we also sell breeding stock and feeder pigs.

We hope to hear from you soon.
